[app-dev] [release] ODL Silicon release - Neutron Northbound plans

Luis Gomez

The way things work in ODL, it is not possible to have a Managed project depending on an SM project.

So if lispflowmapping project wants to continue as Managed project, it should either:

- Remove neutron dependencies.
- Take up neutron project maintenance and keep it as Managed project.

Lori &Robert , I believe we have some dependency for  certain ODL projects like lispflowmapping on Neutron.

So  if any plans for these dependent projects in Silicon that need to be handled or taken care of if we move to a

self-managed mode.

I'm not entirely clear what that means for the lispflowmapping project. If you move to be a self-managed project, do you still plan to keep it in a buildable state, and pick up new versions of odlparent, and your other dependencies? Or will it effectively cease to receive any type of updates, and if our build breaks due to neutron, will we have to step up to fix it?

As for resources and keeping things uptodate, if memory serves right,
only managed projects can really be expected to get contributions, from
fellow managed projects' committers.

Now that's the theory of operation. I am afraid the day-to-day reality
is quite a bit different (and has been for ~18 months).
