[OpenDaylight Marketing] The First OpenDaylight Summit

Hello Open Daylight Marketing Group, and Technical Steering Committe:

I have not heard of any conflicts or issues with the date/location proposed below for the first OpenDaylight Summit.

As such, we will be recommending to the Board tomorrow that the first Summit will be held during the week of February 3rd in the Bay area.  Please let me know if you see any problem with this date/location by the end of today.

TSC and Marketing group members, looking at potential dates where venues are available, our second choice is the week of February 3rd, in San Francisco.  Would this be a reasonable time/place for our first OpenDaylight Summit?

The idea of a summit is a great one.  For now my concern is Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and is also Feb 24 - 27.  Ericsson will be much more able to support the summit after the MWC show is done.  But, of course there are probably many scheduling challenges, but I think the MWC show is a big one for networking marketing teams.

We have begun to discuss when the first OpenDaylight Summit will be in a variety of meetings over the past couple of months.  

In general, the consensus thus far has been to have the first Summit in February or March of next year.  This will be shortly after the first release at the end of 2013 as the community begins preparations for Release 2.  Given the list of available venues and existing SDN/Networking events, the week of February 24th in the Bay area seems to be the most promising.

If this is the date/location we are targeting, we need to lock it down and secure a specific venue as quickly as possible.   There are a limited number of venues available and they are being snapped up constantly.

To that end, I would like to request we discuss this via email and close on it within the next week.

Please weigh in with your thoughts.
