Proposal: SAL Ethernet Plugin -- join Simulataneous Release
Christopher Price <christopher.price@...>
Hi Christine,
I realize I was late in responding, so my apologies are in order.
We did discuss the issue of having the ethernet plugin project participate in the 2013 simultaneous release. At this point in time not enough is known for an informed decision on including the ethernet plugin project to make a decision at this time.
Anees mentioned you would be provided an opportunity to share the project on mondays upcoming technical call which will of course help build a better understanding of the scope and intent of the work. Importantly it will provide greater visibility into
the impacted components and projects. I urge you to make the most of mondays call to help create community visibility into the project impacts and scope.
The process for proceeding will be to:
If the project is able to fulfill the above pre-requisites then it should be possible for the TSC to consider the project for inclusion into the simultaneous release. I must note that even fulfilling these pre-requisites does not guarantee a positive
outcome of such a vote of inclusion.
I hope this helps provide a guideline for the needed activities from the project.
Regards,
Chris

Excuse me for the following request.
My team have a proposal for OpenDaylight. If possible, we also would like to join the simultaneous release, though the due day (M1 milestone) has passed. So Phill suggested me to contact with you for TSC’s permission.
The proposal and release plan can be found here: https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/Project_Proposals:SAL_Ethernet_Plugin
https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/SAL_Ethernet_Plugin:Release_Plan_2013
Our project is to provide an SAL plugin for generic commodity Ethernet switch so that SAL can communicate with Ethernet switch. We will implement most of the APIs that OpenDaylight SAL requires a plugin to implement. Therefore, we have no dependencies with other OpenDaylight components, except for the future compatibility with MD-SAL, which is also an issue for OF 1.3 plugin project. So I feel that our project may be included in the simultaneous release, without causing harm to the simultaneous release plan as it stands.
If it is still possible to join simultaneous release, would you arrange a project review of our proposal in TSC? p.s. I’ll also send Phill our existing code today, for the inbound code review process.
Thanks for your reading and thank you very much.
Regards Christine
