I have posted a new proposal for OpenDaylight -- SAL Ethernet Plugin. Interesting proposal! Just wanna know whether all SDN functions can be implemented well based on SNMP as the southern plugin. If so, the protocol world will be extended a lot beside the openflow/opendove techniques.

Interesting proposal to add SNMP Southbound plugin and to model the various configurable parameters of a network device. Given that SNMP support is not limited to Ethernet Switches (even if your initial scope would be limited to that) why not call the proposal as SNMP SB plugin?

I think an SNMP SB plugin would best be integrated with model-driven SAL, because there is a standard way of how to transform MIBs into YANG models -- which means you can integrate with any device just by having its MIB.
