Hi Priyanka,
Have you tried Basic Authorization? I noticed failures with our python scripts in recent builds, but adding Basic Authorization fixed this.
cheers,

Nguyen, Liem Manh <liem_m_nguyen@...>
Hi Priyanka,
The error you saw about TokenAuthFilter not found simply means that there is no AAA installed; so, there won’t be any authentication. To install authentication
with restconf:
feature:install odl-aaa-authn odl-restconf
Both basic and token-based authentication mechanisms are provided with this feature.
Authentication can also be disabled/enabled dynamically by using the Karaf webconsole, config command, or just setting the “authEnabled” flag to false in the
file etc/org.opendaylight.aaa.authn.cfg.
Regards,
Liem

Re: [controller-dev] [OpenDaylight Discuss] Error installting odl-restconf feature
Is this documented on the wiki or in the docs? We should really make sure that this makes it into the core docs since it crosses across pretty much all other projects.

Liem

Hi Priyanka,
Have you tried Basic Authorization? I noticed failures with our python scripts in recent builds, but adding Basic Authorization fixed this.

Have a question related to this discussion- is there a way to turn off restconf authentication via configuration properties ?

Ah. Ok. Thanks – I missed that error.
I do know that AAA authentication was turned on by default with the restconf feature Monday sometime so that is the change in behavior. I would have expected the way distros are built to pull in all of the AAA
classes / bundles required so it does seem a little strange to see that error.
I think we need to refer to the AAA team and/or Ed Warnikie – they may have a better answer as to what that error means.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.

I am not seeing any “Error” per-sa below. I do see warnings about a response type not being resolvable to a concrete type – is that what you are referring too? If so I
believe those are benign. I also agree with the sentiment that we should clean up exceptions and warnings like these so that we do not confuse customers, developers or support folks looking at log files.

Re: [documentation] [controller-dev] [OpenDaylight Discuss] Error installting odl-restconf feature
Manny Set (eset) <eset@...>
i can place the following information into the core release notes. please review it and let me know if i need to make any changes before i do so.
——
Problem: The following error is returned when trying to install RESTCONF:
The class org.opendaylight.aaa.sts.TokenAuthFilter could not be found.
Solution: The error occurred because AAA is not installed and basic authentication is not in place.
To install authentication for use with RESTCONF, run the following command:
feature:install odl-aaa-authn odl-restconf
Both basic and token-based authentication mechanisms are provided by this feature.
Note: Authentication can also be disabled/enabled dynamically via:
- the Karaf webconsole
- the config command
- setting the authEnabled parameter to false in the etc/org.opendaylight.aaa.authn.cfg file

Is this documented on the wiki or in the docs? We should really make sure that this makes it into the core docs since it crosses across pretty much all other projects.

Hi Priyanka,
Have you tried Basic Authorization? I noticed failures with our python scripts in recent builds, but adding Basic Authorization fixed this.

Ah.

This looks OK to me, but in it's current state it seems like it belongs on the wiki. The version for the docs would want to be a bit more walkthrough-like and is hopefully in the AAA user guide.

FYI… I have added this to the AAA Release notes. AAA configurations have also been documented in the dev guide already by Sujatha.

This looks OK to me, but in it's current state it seems like it belongs on the wiki. The version for the docs would want to be a bit more walkthrough-like and is hopefully in the AAA user guide.

i can place the following information into the core release notes. please review it and let me know if i need to make any changes before i do so.
Problem: The following error is returned when trying to install RESTCONF:
The class org.opendaylight.aaa.sts.TokenAuthFilter could not be found.
Solution: The error occurred because AAA is not installed and basic
authentication is not in place. To install authentication for use with RESTCONF, run the following command:
feature:install odl-aaa-authn odl-restconf
Both basic and token-based authentication mechanisms are provided by this feature.
Note: Authentication can also be disabled/enabled dynamically via:
-
the Karaf webconsole
-
the config command
-
setting the authEnabled parameter to false in the etc/org.opendaylight.aaa.authn.cfg file

Hi Priyanka,
The error you saw about TokenAuthFilter not found simply means that there is no AAA installed; so,
there won’t be any authentication. To install authentication with restconf:
feature:install odl-aaa-authn odl-restconf
Both basic and token-based authentication mechanisms are provided with this feature.
Authentication can also be disabled/enabled dynamically by using the Karaf webconsole, config command,
or just setting the “authEnabled” flag to false in the file etc/org.opendaylight.aaa.authn.cfg.

Declined: ODL - Weekly AAA Project meeting
Nguyen, Liem Manh <liem_m_nguyen@...>
Hi guys,
We won’t be having a AAA status meeting today due to the Summit earlier this week and some folks recuperating from traveling, etc..
It was great meeting some folks f2f for the first time for me, like Wojciech and Lakshman (just wish I had more time J). Also, from my experience, AAA is well-received by everyone from the community; so, congratulations and
thank-you to everyone for all your hard work! Looking forward to a better and more enterprise-ready AAA in Lithium!
We will be discussing our plans for Lithium next week this same time slot… BTW, the slides for the AAA presentation is posted here and also cross-linked via AAA’s main Wiki page:
Cheers,
Liem

Re: a few questions regarding AAA
Hi Xingjun,
regarding persistency, there are actually two mechanisms in play: AuthN data is persisted in an SQL Lite file (currently - this is subject to change for Lithium). AuthZ data is persisted as per the MD-SAL store persistency setup (ie if that's not configured, then it doesn't persist). Multitenancy is to an extent supported; we've defined domains pretty much for that reason in AuthN. The AuthZ (draft) policy data model seeks to cover for that, but currently the AuthZ service doesn't check for it. Any additional deatil on the type of multi-tenancy use-case you have in mind would be helpful. Thanks, Wojciech.

AAA Lithium proposal/discussion?
Nguyen, Liem Manh <liem_m_nguyen@...>
Hi guys,
On our last “status” meeting, we talked about what to do for Lithium (sorry, I forgot to hit the “record” button again)… A few ideas were floated around (including some mentioned at the Summit) in no particular order:
1.
Clustered AAA
a.
Clustered-aware persistency/caching
2.
AuthZ
a.
Toaster example with AuthZ
b.
XPath-like matching for resource URIs
c.
Multi-domain… How do we tie it in with GBP? Or….?
3.
AuthN
a.
Openstack Keystone federation (SSO)
4.
Karaf security
a.
JAAS login module for AAA
5.
Application Authorization
a.
Internal: Jar signing/verification
b.
External: 3-legged OAuth
6.
Auditing
a.
CADF
7.
Re-organizing AAA features to avoid circular dependencies with controller. A first step is to separate APIs and implementations as their own features, and also separate what is “core” functionality from what is “plugin” functionality…
Here’s a rough sketch (to be discussed further): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1KtwIIbDsZXN3F2QzlfT0swclU/view?usp=sharing
8.
More testing (including integration tests)
Obviously there are more stuff here that we can humanly take on from the AAA team. So, we will need to prioritize these stuff and see what is feasible for Lithium….
Thanks,
Liem

Anyone interested in presenting the AAA solution on the TWS call next Monday?
David (cc:d) had some specific questions he can expand on.
Thanks!

Would "application bundle identification" fall into this one?
Yes, for the internal app use-case.

Hi guys,
On our last “status” meeting, we talked about what to do for Lithium (sorry, I forgot to hit the “record” button again)… A few ideas were floated around (including some mentioned
at the Summit) in no particular order:
1. Clustered AAA
a. Clustered-aware persistency/caching
2. AuthZ
a. Toaster example with AuthZ
b. XPath-like matching for resource URIs
c. Multi-domain… How do we tie it in with GBP? Or….?
I kind of split the AuthZ "leftovers" into:
- Complete AuthZ for RPC, Notification and Mounted resources
- AuthZ resource path match engine. There are a couple of ideas here that we should discuss, of which xpath-like could be one.
- Authz for non Restconf access
3. AuthN
a. Openstack Keystone federation (SSO)
4. Karaf security
a. JAAS login module for AAA
5. Application Authorization
a. Internal: Jar signing/verification
b. External: 3-legged OAuth
Would "application bundle identification" fall into this one?
6. Auditing
a. CADF
7. Re-organizing AAA features to avoid circular dependencies with controller. A first step is to separate APIs and implementations as their own features, and also separate what is “core” functionality from what
is “plugin” functionality… Here’s a rough sketch (to be discussed further): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1KtwIIbDsZXN3F2QzlfT0swclU/view?usp=sharing
8. More testing (including integration tests)
Obviously there are more stuff here that we can humanly take on from the AAA team. So, we will need to prioritize these stuff and see what is feasible for Lithium….
Thanks,
Liem

Hi Peter,
I was browsing through the Idmlight code and API and noticed the "Grant" model item/class, which tbh it is not clear what is it for. Could you kindly provide your insights into what is it meant for? Regards, Wojciech.
