Does ODL BGP support 2 byte ASN also ?

Satish Dutt

Hi,

In the ODL BGP user guide it has been mentioned that “OpenDaylight BGP implementation supports four-octet AS numbers only”.  Does this mean the 2 byte AS numbers will not be supported by ODL ?

Regards

Correct.

Thanks Robert .

Since ODL is not supporting the 2 byte ASN, I have the below queries regarding the ODL support of the ASN :

1) If the old ASN numbers are used in a network, will the 2 byte ASN get embedded as part of the 4 byte ASN ?
2) Whether the private ASN numbers of the 2 byte ASN in the range 64512 - 65534 be honored in the 4 byte ASN ?

Regards
-Satish

As stated on wiki, ODL acts as an RFC4893 NEW speaker. Translation and
mapping of 2-byte ASNs is therefore a question on the advertising peer
side. That is expected to conform to RFC4893 (or RFC6793), which covers
these mechanics.
