HWVTEP L3 - Progress in spec and implementation

Hi Daya,

I was absent in the last HWVTEP meeting, and wanted to update + ask what is the status of the HWVTEP L3 spec.

·        I’m talking with a contact in Arista trying to set up a HWVTEP L3 scenario – EOS 4.18 should include an implementation.

Do you have an update about the spec?

Thanks,

Ariel.

Hi ariel,

We briefly discussed on whether we should update the hwvtep schema to version 1.6 ( I think, need to double check) that seems to have been bundled with 2.6

This table adds an explicit field to indicate what flooding mechanism the vtep should use, service node, or head end replication.

In the current schema, we have made a leap of faith assumption that the switch will use head end replication, and we simply program all the remote vteps in the unknown-mac mcast entry.

Re, spec itself, I have not been able to get hold of people to work on the impl for carbon, so will have to submit and work for nitrogen. we can chalk out an approach, and have a design discussion beforehand, but we would not be able to have anyone work on the code aspects. We could also focus on having the plugin updated. would this work for you?

Thanks,

daya
