Queries about ODL HWVTEP HA
Ran Xiao
Hi,
I have some questions about the target of ODL HWVTEP HA function. For HWVTEP HA, I think the HA configuration can also be realized by stacking HWVTEPs, instead of using "ODL HWVTEP HA" function. Are my following understandings right? 1. For realizing HWVTEP HA without using "ODL HWVTEP HA" function - Need to stack HWVTEPs - There is only one single OVSDB connection between ODL and HWVTEPs 2. For realizing HWVTEP HA by using "ODL HWVTEP HA" function - Do not stack HWVTEPs Assumed that the ToR requirements of the reference are satisfied. <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U7M78uNhBp8eZIu0YH04u6Vzj6t2NpvDY4peX8svsXY/edit?usp=sharing> - OVSDB connections exist between ODL and all HWVTEPs, and HA Node is created in the data store Thanks in advance. Yes, you're correct. 2 was added for use cases/devices that don't support 1. For devices that support 1, nothing is needed on ODL side as it will see the stack as a single HWVTEP device. Note that it hasn't been tested but in theory should work. In a way you can say 2 is implementing stacking in ODL instead of on switch. Regards, Vishal. -----Original Message-----

hi ran, one addition on top of what vishal said. in case 2, the HWVTEPs cannot function independently, they still need to present a logical switch view to ODL, and have a backend mechanism to sync MACs and xmit dataplane pkts between the 2 devices (similar to MLAG switches). what it does enable, is faster failover and convergence, because the controller will always be communicating with both the devices, and they will be in sync. thanks, daya

I'm trying to realizing HWVTEP HA (A / A model) by using ODL HWVTEP HA function. But get stuck as I couldn't find any specific instructions / guidance. Wonder if you can share if there are any related information such as configuration notes or setup guides. And one more question, for ODL HWVTEP HA, how should I change the network in the figure below? [1] <https://lists.opendaylight.org/pipermail/ovsdb-dev/attachments/20160804/652e7ecd/attachment-0001.png> Thanks in advance. BR Ran -----Original Message-----
